Vintage Vacheron Constantin wristwatches are often characterized by their charismatic case designs, which differentiates them from other vintage watches of the time. From the 1930’s through the 1950’s, many watch brands saw an increase in interest in case shapes that were more sleek and inspired by industrial designs, and began producing more rectangular and square-shaped cases. From the 1940’s through the 1960’s, Vacheron Constantin would only make at most 24 examples of a reference in one configuration – so while they produced a variety of dial and case combinations/colors and designs, each one was extremely limited. The use of so many varied designs with limited pieces produced is what so many find appealing about collecting vintage Vacheron Constantin watches. Time-only pieces set a standard for creativity, allowing the wearer to appreciate how the case and dial design elements take center stage.

The present watch is a classic example of a 1950’s wristwatch, having evolved from the more organic Art Deco designs of the 1920’s through 1940’s and moving towards the more simple and futuristic designs that would dominate the 1970’s. From the front, one can clearly see the industrial design inspiration, with sharp flared lines. On the side however, one can see that the curved lugs and overhanging elements that are reminiscent of the previously popular round and tonneau-shaped cases.  With sharp side facets and a crisp hallmark on the back of the upper left lug, the present watch impresses with its overall excellent condition, and is a classic Vacheron Constantin timepiece – with the same commitment to top quality on both the interior and exterior.
